Offshore Report: The cold fronts that came through South Florida last week have kicked off the Sailfish bite. 10 fish a day hasn’t been out of the question. Another front is pushing through late Sunday, which should only bring more fish into the area. Kite fishing has been most productive off of Palm Beach. Goggle eyes are always the bait of choice, with blue runners working as well. The sailfish bite has been the best from The Breakers to Lost Tree between 100-250ft.
Also offshore, there has been a mixed bag bite along the reef. We’ve had reports from Palm Beach Inlet to Juno of mutton snapper, yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper, kingfish and cobia all being caught. For best results fish sardines on the bottom, but also have a flatline rod out with a sardine or ballyhoo drifting in the current without a weight. This action has been taking place between 75-110 ft.
Inshore Report: The mackerel bite was on fire along the beach this morning from Pierless to Carlin Park. The fish should stay in the area with this weekends upcoming cold front. Most of the fish were right in the shore break and first trough. Gulfstream flash minnows, Gotcha Lures, Shimano coltsniper jigs, and spoons are all good options. You just want a bait with a lot of flash that will stay in the water when retrieved quickly.
The pompano bite has been great along the beach and at the Juno Pier as well. Pompano rigs baited with either sandfleas or Fish Bites have been working best. Goofy style jigs have also been working well.
