Offshore Report: Wahoo fishing has been productive off of the Palm Beaches for the last few weeks. Most of the fish have been caught between the Breakers and Lost Tree, with a few more fish being reportedly caught off of Jupiter. Although the weeds have made it tough to troll for them this summer, they have recently started to clear up allowing you to troll deep baits. A horse ballyhoo or splittail mullet with a skirt over it is still the go-to bait, but artificial baits have been producing as well. Cowbells, Yo-Zuri Bonita plugs, and Nomad DTX Minnows are all good options that will get down deep with little to no added weight.
Bottom fishing has been hit-or-miss the last week or so. The best time of day for bottom fishing seems to be late afternoon and into the evening. We’ve had a pretty decent supply of sardines lately, so they are once again the best bait option. Threadfins, squid or cigar minnows will also work well. Yellowtail snapper have been the most abundant. There have been mutton snapper caught, but most have been just short of being the legal 18″. From Palm Beach Inlet to Lost Tree from 60-90 ft of water has been the most productive area.
Inshore/Beach Report: There is an abundance of snook in both the Jupiter and Palm Beach Inlet as they stage there this time of year to spawn. You may have to do a little searching, but the pod of snook should easily be marked on a depth finder. In the inlets, live bait will be your best bet. Mullet and croakers have been the best bait lately. If you’re patrolling the beach, there are plenty of snook around as well. Using a swimbait will be your best bet for beach fishing as you will be able to cover a lot more ground. Hogy protails, Spoolteks, or Gambler swimbaits are all great options.
